OREANDA-NEWS President Petro Poroshenko is confident that due to the judicial reform, justice in Ukraine will become available, open, professional and non-corrupt.

In the presence of the Head of State, judges, appointed in the transitional period of the judicial reform to ensure access to justice for citizens, have taken oath. According to the Council of Judges of Ukraine, there is an under-staffing of courts of different instances caused by the dismissal of numerous old judges, which prevented their efficient functioning.

The Head of State drew attention of the newly appointed judges to the fact that our country was undergoing a brand new period of development and its citizens urgently needed protection of truth, justice, honest and fair court. The President noted that those judges assumed incredible responsibility.

The Head of State is hopeful that the draft law “On the Supreme Council of Justice” will be finalized based on the remarks and approved the following week.

Another priority is the draft law “On the Constitutional Court of Ukraine” elaborated by the Council on Judicial Reform and endorsed by the Venice Commission. It sets forth competitive selection procedures of the Constitutional Court and introduces the innovation - institute of constitutional complaint, which is an additional mechanism to protect rights and freedoms of citizens. According to Petro Poroshenko, revision and adoption of new procedural legislation is equally important as well.
