OREANDA-NEWS. The Cabinet of Ministers approved at its today meeting the national cancer control program for 2016-2025. The document is focused on reducing cancer mortality and improving the quality of life of patients diagnosed with this disease.

The authorities come with proposal to increase the medical services’ quality for population and improve conditions of activity of medical institutions, including the implementation of new technologies. At the same time, the government should undertake a series of measures on social mobilization in cancer control and ongoing monitoring of the public health sector.

The program approved includes the objectives to reduce, to 2025, by 10 per cent in the incidence of cancers and 25 per cent increase in the rate of early detection of patients with this disease. At the same time, to be increased patient access to quality diagnosis, treatment and care, including the provision of treatment services in operation in all administrative units.

The National Cancer Control program implementation will take place in two stages. In the first one, 2016-2020, there will be carried out the health system capacity building activities, including equipping health facilities with medical devices and qualified staff. Subsequently, depending on the results, it will be drafted an action plan for the coming period.

In Moldova, cancer is the second leading cause of death among the population and the number of people suffering from this disease is increasing.
