OREANDA-NEWS. Belarusian deputies adopted amendments to the law on citizenship of Belarus, expanding the circle of people who can obtain citizenship on a preferential basis.

Introducing the bill in the House of Representatives on Thursday, First Deputy Minister of the Interior Gennady Kazakevich said innovations would help increase the country's attractiveness. "The proposed additions and changes will help increase the attractiveness of the country and in the long term have a beneficial effect on the formation and development of national human capital", said Kazakevich, whose words are quoted by Belarusian media.

According to the document, it is planned to reduce from seven to five years the period of continuous residence necessary for a foreigner to apply for admission to Belarusian citizenship.
