OREANDA-NEWS. In China, a court sentenced a citizen to two years in prison with a three-year suspension of execution, as well as a fine of 200 thousand yuan (about 31 thousand dollars) for violating self-isolation, according to the Chinese newspaper Pengpai.

The verdict was passed by the People's Court of Pingxiang City County, Chongzuo City District, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

According to the prosecutor's office, in April of this year, a Chinese citizen named Cao arrived from Vietnam to China. While passing the border control, Cao inaccurately filled out a health questionnaire, hiding the symptoms of COVID-19 infection, and also withheld information that cases of infection were detected among the guests at the hotel where he lived in Vietnam. In addition, Cao violated the rules of self-isolation in China and left the quarantine hotel to meet with friends.

According to the prosecution, due to Cao's actions, 459 people were placed in isolation for medical supervision, which led to significant economic losses, another 29 border control officers were sent to self-isolation for 14 days, which seriously affected the operation of the border crossing.
