OREANDA-NEWS Belgian experts from the University of Ghent conducted a study and concluded that the color of feathers affects flight efficiency. It turns out that birds with white feathers on the wings of the body and black tips have an elevated lift. This is stated in the Journal of the Royal Society Interface.

As an experiment, scientists have collected several stuffed animals with various feathers. Then the experts placed the stuffed wings in a special wind tunnel, heated them with infrared rays and observed what was happening.

It turned out that the combined plumage coloring is best for flying. But the birds showed the greatest flight efficiency with light feathers near the body and dark ones at the end of the wing. According to experts, it is this color that allows the bird to significantly save energy.
