OREANDA-NEWS  The Arbitration Court of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region has registered a lawsuit by Gazprom Export against the German energy concern and gas importer Uniper, it follows from the court materials.

Gazprom Export LLC – statement of claim... The defendants "Uniper Global Commodities SE" (Uniper Global Commodities SE – ed.)... "META-Methanhandel GmbH" (METHA-Methanhandel GmbH – ed.)," according to the case card on the Electronic Justice portal.

The claims have not yet been clarified, and the date of the hearing has also not been set. Gazprom Export's claim was registered on February 21.

Earlier, Uniper reported that it had filed a lawsuit against Gazprom Export in the International Arbitration Court. In January, Uniper CEO Michael Lewis told reporters that he expected a decision from the arbitration court in the dispute with Gazprom Export in the summer. During the proceedings, which will be held in Stockholm, the company, previously nationalized by the German state, will file claims for damages incurred in connection with gas, which Gazprom Export has not supplied since June 2022. Uniper estimates the losses incurred due to the diversification of supplies and purchases at "inflated" prices at 11.6 billion euros.

Gazprom Export, in turn, noted that it is studying the statement of claim in the case with Uniper and will defend interests within the legal framework, without recognizing violations of contracts and the legality of the stated claims for damages.

Uniper is a German energy company. Its main activities are electricity generation, as well as global energy trading and a wide portfolio of gas assets, which makes Uniper one of the leading gas companies in Europe. It operates in more than 40 countries, the staff is estimated at about 7 thousand employees. In December 2022, the German authorities completed the nationalization of Uniper, and 99% of the shares were transferred to the government.
