The video shows thick plumes of smoke rising from the building.

Windows of the first and second floors have been knocked out in the building. Firefighters or police are not yet visible.

Earlier that day, protesters broke into the Almaty administration building through doors and shattered windows. Later, a fire broke out in the city hall, and clouds of smoke rise above it. Law enforcers moved away from the burning building.

The assault on the city hall began a few hours ago. Special means were used against the protesters.

Clashes between protesters and police began on Wednesday morning, there are casualties. People tried to pass through the courtyards to Baitursynov Street, and the police responded by using special means against them.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Kazakh Interior Ministry reported that protesters in Alma-Ata, Shymkent and Taraz attempted to attack local administrations. The police took measures to curb the disturbance of public order in order to ensure security.

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has introduced a state of emergency (state of emergency) in the country's capital, Nur-Sultan. The special regime will operate from January 5 to January 19.
