OREANDA-NEWS  Forest fires that broke out on Thursday in Catalonia have been extinguished, European media reported.

About 100 firefighters fought fires on an area of dozens of hectares in the Tarragona province, and there were involved specialized firefighting aircraft.

However, an increased threat of wildfires remains in much of Spain due to extremely hot weather, reports said.

According to local meteorological services, the maximum air temperature can reach 40 degrees on Friday.

A number of European countries were hit by intense heat which led to forest fires, in particular in Greece and Italy.
