OREANDA-NEWS  In 2019, Russia took the post of Vice-Chairman of the Kimberley process, which regulates the diamond market, and next year it will take the post of Chairman. This is stated in the Ministry of Finance.

Russia will make the main efforts to combat the penetration of a large number of synthetic diamonds into the market, as well as focus on creating equal conditions for all market participants, Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Moiseev said.

 According to Moiseev, every fifth diamond sold under the guise of natural is synthetic. Even well-known brands face substitution of stones.

"Since January 1, 2019, the Russian Federation has become Vice-Chairman of the Kimberley process, and in 2020 will take the post of Chairman, replacing India",-noted in the Department. He noted that Russia has not been Chairman of the Kimberley process since 2005, and announced its intention to take this post.

The term of office of the President is one year, after which he gives the place of the head of the KP to the Vice-Chairman. The previous time Russia held the post of Vice-Chairman of the KP in 2004 and Chairman in 2005.

 The Republic of Botswana will become Vice-chair of the Kimberley process in 2020. In 2021, it will be given the function of Chairman, added the Ministry of Finance.

The Kimberley process (founded in 2000 in Kimberley, South Africa) is an international initiative led by the governments of more than 80 participating States under the auspices of the United Nations. Its participants are diamond - producing and importing countries that aim to exclude from international trade "conflict" diamonds used to arm and support anti-government and terrorist organizations. The Kimberley process provides control of export and import transactions covering up to 99% of the volume of world trade in diamonds.
