OREANDA-NEWSOn Tuesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov arrived on an official visit to Cuba, which will be the first point of the trip of the head of the diplomatic department for Latin American countries. According to the correspondent of the Russian media, the plane of the Russian delegation landed at the airport of the capital of the Caribbean country at 21:40 (04:40 Moscow time).

The head of the Foreign Ministry at the ramp was met by the Director of the Department of Bilateral Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Emilio Losada Garcia, and the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Havana, Andrei Guskov.

As expected, during the current visit to Havana, which will last less than a day, the head of the Russian diplomatic mission will hold talks with his Cuban counterpart Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, who came to Moscow in May of this year. It's planned that the ministers will discuss the deepening of trade and economic cooperation, cultural and humanitarian issues and the main problems of the regional and global agenda.

Sergey Lavrov visited the republic more than 10 times, and his last working visit took place in April 2014. Then he was received by the former Chairman of the State Council and the Council of Ministers of the Caribbean Republic, Raul Castro. Cuba will be the first point of the trip of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia in Latin America, the visit to Havana will last only one day.

In early July, it became known that Lavrov could hold talks with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in the coming months. The previous meeting between Lavrov and Pompeo was held on May 14 in Sochi. Politicians discussed bilateral relations and topical issues on the world agenda, including the situation in Syria, Venezuela, North Korea, Ukraine and Iran.
