As a result of a special operation in the Hagen synagogue area, four people were detained, the police department in Dortmund said on Thursday, September 16.

In turn, a representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of North Rhine-Westphalia confirmed that one teenager was detained. Hagen police also reported the arrest of four suspects, one of whom is 16 years old. In parallel, searches were conducted.

The Land Minister of the Interior, Herbert Reul, said that there was a «serious extremist threat». Speaking on the morning of September 16 at the swearing-in ceremony of young policemen in Cologne, he noted that their colleagues «apparently prevented» a terrorist attack in a synagogue in Hagen.

Earlier, the media reported on the detention of several people due to the threat of a terrorist attack in Hagen. In particular, according to Der Spiegel, a 16-year-old native of Syria was detained, who was preparing to arrange an explosion. In the morning of September 16, a search was conducted in the apartment where the teenager lived with his father, the weekly newspaper said.
