OREANDA-NEWS 13 people have been killed after the fall of a cable car in the northern Italy in the Piedmont region. Two children, aged nine and five, were seriously suffered and were taken to the hospital by helicopters but the older child later died. It is also reported about the dead tourists from Germany.

The tragedy has happened on Sunday, on the cable car connecting the locality of Stresa on the shores of Lake Maggiore and Mount Mottarone. There were 15 passengers in the cablecar. But there was room for 35 people.

According to preliminary data, the cable holding the cabin has been torn about 300 meters to the top of the mountainin the region of the last pylon at the maximum height.

The causes of the crash are being investigated. Rescuers are working at the place where the cabin felt;the operation is complicated by wooded and hard-to-reach terrain.

Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi said that the catastrophe is a "tragic accident" and added he was receiving all information about that from  officials and expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
