OREANDA-NEWS  The Netherlands cannot abandon Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) due to the French TotalEnergies deal with a Russian supplier, Bloomberg news agency reports, citing sources.

"The long-term LNG contract between TotalEnergies and the Russian supplier has become an inconvenient obstacle to the fulfillment by the Dutch government of its promise to stop importing fuel from Russia," the agency said in a statement.

According to sources, the government cannot legally terminate agreements between two private companies.

We are talking about the participation of TotalEnergies in the Yamal LNG project. In accordance with the terms of the 2018 contract, the company sends part of the Russian LNG to the Netherlands.

According to the agency, the head of TotalEnergies, Patrick Pouyanne, promised to continue supplying LNG from the Russian Federation until sanctions are imposed.

Yamal LNG is a natural gas liquefaction project based on the Yuzhno-Tambeyskoye field. The shareholders are Novatek (50.1%), Total (20%), CNPC (20%) and the Silk Road Fund (9.9%).
