OREANDA-NEWS The Russian Embassy in Cyprus will begin providing consular services in the northern part of the island "in the very near future." This was reported to TASS by a representative of the embassy.

"The work will be carried out on a regular basis," the agency interlocutor assured. He did not give exact dates for the start of work.

More than 50 thousand Russians now live in the north of Cyprus, TASS clarifies. The embassies of the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Italy and France also work in this part of the island.

The partially recognized Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) occupies the northern third of the island of Cyprus, located within the borders of the Republic of Cyprus. Northern Cyprus declared its independence in 1983, the TRNC is recognized only by Turkey. There have been no official negotiations on the Cyprus issue under the auspices of the UN for almost six years.
