OREANDA-NEWSThe United States will expand sanctions against Iran. This was announced on Monday by the head of the US Treasury Stephen Mnuchin during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem. "We are campaigning for maximum pressure through sanctions. They worked, and they work, they block the flow of money", Mnuchin quoted Reuters as saying. "We will continue to intensify in this area more and more", said the head of the Ministry of Finance.

Netanyahu, referring to Mnuchin, said that "Iran is a real threat to peace in the Middle East". "I urge the United States to impose additional sanctions", quoted Israeli Prime Minister Kan as saying.

Mnuchin in response noted that “he just came from a very productive working lunch” with the Netanyahu team. “The Israeli prime minister’s team has given us a number of special ideas that will be explored”, he continued. Mnuchin arrived in Israel on Monday with senior adviser and son-in-law of US President Donald Trump Jared Kushner. On Tuesday, according to The Jerusalem Post, the US delegation will travel from Israel to Saudi Arabia, where it will attend a conference on economics in Riyadh.
