OREANDA-NEWSPoland and Russia, after a recent debate over the assessment of the events of World War II, should strive to normalize relations. This was stated by Polish Foreign Minister Jacek Chaputovic in an interview published on Monday with the Polish Press Agency.

According to the minister, Poland "definitely won this historic dispute with Russia". "Now we must strive to calm our emotions and normalize our relations, because, despite all the differences, we are neighbors", Chaputovich said, recalling that "ahead of the 80th anniversary of the events in Katyn and the 10th anniversary of the crash near Smolensk".

According to the Foreign Minister of Poland, he discussed the upcoming important dates for Poland with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the Republic Sergey Andreev. "I don’t know what the final decisions will be, but I think that if the Polish delegation wanted to go to Smolensk and Katyn, perhaps not under the leadership of President Andrzej Duda, Russia would not create obstacles", Chaputovich said.

The dispute between Russia and Poland about the history of World War II began at the end of last year, when Warsaw reacted critically to a speech by Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which he recalled that the Soviet Union was the last European state to sign a non-aggression treaty with Germany.
