OREANDA-NEWS President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky announced a favorable situation for the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the front, but in reality the situation is different, writes journalist David Brennan for Newsweek.

"Russian troops are making new, albeit minor, territorial gains <...>, although Zelensky said that Moscow's forces have been stopped," the publication says.

The article notes that Russian troops are still moving forward in all directions, as reported by major Western media.

Earlier, Zelensky, in an interview with the French TV channel BFM TV, said that Russia's offensive had been stopped.
The president's statement on the eve was refuted by the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Alexander Syrsky, he called the situation at the front difficult due to the offensive of Russian troops.

In mid—February, Russian troops liberated Avdiivka, a northern suburb of Donetsk, which was turned into a powerful fortified area by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This made it possible to move the front line away from the city and significantly protect it from attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine. By the end of the month, the Center group of troops liberated several more settlements to the west of Avdiivka: Lastochkino, Severnoye, Petrovsky.
