OREANDA-NEWS. June 19, 2008. The electric power grid is under construction in Lebap – the region of strategic importance due to the huge resource and industrial potential. To date, the power facilities including the Farab 220/110/35 kV transforming station and the 110kV power transmission lines – Farab-Samandepe and Samandepe-Yashildepe, the Yashildepe transforming station and the Yashildepe-Burdalyk 110kV transmission lines, which are the important links of the project on establishment of the large industrial centre – the Yashildepe gas processing complex on the right bank of the Amu Darya River, Buradlyk 110/10kV transforming station have been put into operation in the region. The power supply facilities built by the subdivisions of the Turkmenenergogurlushik Concern amounted to over 46.6 billion manat. Thus, the energy system in the Lebap Velayat reinforced with the new facilities has entered a higher level that conforms to the strategic aims of development of the region and the entire country.

The new power grid plays a key role in fulfilling the tasks set forth in President’s programme on improvement of the social and economic conditions in rural areas till 2020. It will uninterruptedly transmit electric power to the settlements in the valley of the Amu Darya River. The programme stipulates for construction of the power transmission lines stretching over 3,000 kilometres and reconstruction of about 4,000 km of the existing lines in the towns and settlements in Lebap.

Construction of the electric power grid in Lebap is conditioned by the long-range plans on full-scale implementation of its profound economic potential. At present, the right bank of the Amu Darya River is the construction site of the power-consuming facilities of the fuel and energy infrastructure. Particular importance is attached to commercial production of the abundant mineral pools in the Magdanly-Garlyk region, where the cement and potash fertilizers plants and other industrial facilities will be constructed.

Lebap power engineers have much work to do. This year they are planning to start the project on construction of the 110kV transmission lines Turkmenabat-Pelvert and Pelvert-Burdalyk across the Amu Darya River, which will be connected to the power grid of the Lebap Velayat.
