OREANDA-NEWS. Spanish football goalkeeper Iker Casillas, who had a heart attack and heart surgery, officially announced the end of his career as a player.

“It is the path that you pass and the people who surround you that are important, and not the result that you come to, because the path is accompanied by work and efforts. I think I can say without any doubt that a man can only dream of my path and my destiny,” 39-year-old Casillas wrote on Instagram.

Casillas made his club debut in 1998. He played in just two teams: Real Madrid and Porto. In total, he took part in 881 matches at club level, in 338 of which he left his goal untouched. He has 15 national trophies, as well as three victories in the Champions League and two in the UEFA Super Cup.

For the Spanish national team, with which he won the World Cup and twice became the European champion, he played 168 matches, of which 102 were of no score for him.
