OREANDA-NEWS. Fans will be admitted to the matches of the European Football Championship in St. Petersburg, but only 50 percent of the stadium capacity. This was announced to RIA Novosti by the general director of the organizing committee Alexei Sorokin.

He explained that the organizing committee of Euro 2020 in St. Petersburg decided to apply the basic scenario, which provides for filling the stadium by half. The corresponding letter will be sent to UEFA after it is signed by the city administration.

Sorokin said: "UEFA provides such an opportunity - until April 28, each city can increase the number of allowed spectators. Accordingly, by the 28th, each city must announce the capacity of public viewing zones. This also applies to St. Petersburg. I believe that today day is a good development. Of course, the situation is different in every city. But considering what happened in the last year, 50 percent is a good result. "

Euro 2020 will be held from June 11 to July 11 in 12 European cities. St. Petersburg will host three group stage matches and one quarter-final. The stadium where they will be held can accommodate 61 thousand spectators.

Now in tournaments under the auspices of UEFA there is a restriction according to which no more than 30 percent of the fans from the total capacity of the stadium are allowed per game.
