OREANDA-NEWS. Unmanned aerial vehicles General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper of the US Air Force will be deployed at the Amari Air Base located in the territory of Estonia.

This was reported by the newspaper Stars and Stripes with reference to the command of the US Armed Forces in Europe (USAFE). It is known that aircrafts will be temporarily involved in reconnaissance missions.

The decision of the US Air Force was taken together with the Estonian Defense Forces. The need for these actions is explained be repair work at the air base in the Polish town of Miroslawiec. The purpose of the relocation is to support the intelligence missions of US allies in NATO. “The operations aim to promote stability and security within the region and strengthen relationships with NATO allies and other European partners,” USAFE representative said.

At the same time, the publication notes that this step will help the North Atlantic Alliance strengthen surveillance around the upper Baltics, “where Russia’s military is active.”
