OREANDA-NEWS. In 2017, the National Bank of Ukraine plans to diversify the range of Ukrainian numismatic products and put into circulation 34  commemorative coins, including 10 silver coins, 16 German silver coins and 8 bimetallic coins of non-precious metals.

According to the 2017 Issue schedule for commemorative coins, the NBU shall put into circulation 737,500 pieces of commemorative coins, including 32,500 pieces of silver coins and 705,000 pieces of  coins made of non-precious metals.

The NBU issues commemorative coins to mark national red-letter days. Therefore, some commemorative coins will be put into circulation pursuant to Presidential Decrees and Resolutions and Ordinances of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

In 2017, the NBU will continue to expand the existing coin series, such as “Spiritual Treasures of Ukraine”, “Outstanding Personalities of Ukraine”, “Architectural Monuments of Ukraine”, “Ukrainian Heritage”, and “Oblasts of Ukraine”.  

The themes for commemorative coins to be issued in 2017 selected based on the proposals put forward by the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, ministries, central government authorities and coin collectors.

The NBU has received over 200 proposals, including 135 proposals regarding the Outstanding Personalities of Ukraine coin series. As part of this series, the NBU will issue commemorative coins devoted to the outstanding Ukrainian personalities: the Ukrainian painter Tetiana Yablons ka, poet Mykailo Petrenko, sculptor Oleksandr Archipenko, and the historian Mykola Kostomarov.

The NBU will also put into circulation coins to mark the 100th anniversary of the Ukrainian Revolution (1917 – 1921) and coins devoted to the flora and fauna, architectural monuments and higher educational establishments of Ukraine.

Next year, the NBU will complete the Fauna in the Cultural Monuments of Ukraine coin series consisting of six coins. Three coins from this series, including “The Wolf”, “The Deer” and the “Peacock” will be released in 2016. Three more coins such as “The Aurochs”, “The Lion” and “The Snake” will be issued in 2017.
