OREANDA-NEWS. The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed a Decree dated 10 May 2016 No. 200/2016 "The issues of Ukraine's accession to the Statute of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)", in which he authorized Chairman of the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine to submit an application on joining the IRENA.

Being the party to the IRENA Statute Ukraine will benefit from an opportunity to participate in programmes and apply to Abu Dhabi Development Fund to obtain preferential loans. The Fund’s budget amounts USD 350 million. Loans to the tune of USD 98 million have been granted for the implementation of 11 projects.

Joining the Statute, Ukraine shall obtain access to information on the use of renewable energy sources, current renewable energy practices, including policy instruments, incentives, investment mechanisms, best practices, available technologies, integrated systems and equipment, and success-failure factors.

The Statute stipulates for the Agency to provide information about the development and deployment of national and international technical standards in relation to renewable energy, thus promoting cooperation between the parties to the IRENA statute. Another benefit is participation in the IRENA will afford to get necessary policy advice and assistance, engage in international discussions on renewable energy policy.

Now 144 countries have joined the IRENA Statute and another 31 countries have applied for membership in the organization.
