OREANDA-NEWS. Belarus has sent to the Russian government an official application for refinancing the state debt of Minsk to Moscow in 2021, the amount of discussed obligations is 600 million US dollars.

This was reported by Interfax news agency, citing a source in financial circles familiar with the negotiation process. According to him, the Belarusian side is asking for funds for refinancing for a period of 15 years. Journalists’ interlocutor added that this week the issue of refinancing the public debt of Minsk “will be discussed at the level of the heads of the governments of the two countries.” “The likelihood of providing the Belarusian side with new state resources from Russia is very high, taking into account the political level at which this matter is being discussed,” he said.

On August 27, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced that he had agreed with the leadership of Russia to discuss the possibility of refinancing 1 billion dollars of the Belarusian state debt. “That is, we will keep this billion dollars in our country, having agreed with Russia. And it will be a good reinforcement for our national currency,” he noted.
