OREANDA-NEWS Russian researchers intend to carry out the"Cortes" experiment to study the Sun from the International Space Station (ISS).

The head of the laboratory of the Physics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (LPI) Sergey Kuzin told about this project.

This is about the use of equipment on board the ISS for the study of our luminary and space weather forecasting. To collect scientific data, two instruments will be installed on the outer side of the orbital complex - a special telescope and a spectrometer. It will make it possible to carry out spectrographic studies and to study fast events occurring within a few minutes.

It is expected that the new experiment will help formulate short-term and relatively long-term space weather forecasts. The actual implementation of the project is tentatively scheduled only for 2024.
