OREANDA-NEWS. The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) announced an increase in the level of risk associated with the spread of coronavirus infection in Europe. “The risk associated with COVID-19 infection for people in the EU/EEA and UK is currently considered to be moderate to high, based on the probability of transmission and the impact of the disease,” the report says.

In a previous forecast dated February 23, the ECDC estimated the risk of the spread of virus in the range from low to moderate.

According to experts, in 80 % of cases, infection with COVID-19 causes mild disease without the development of pneumonia or with its mild form, but in 14 % of cases the disease is classified as severe disease, in 6 % as critical illness.

In the new report of the ECDC, the total number of residents of the EU, Great Britain, Switzerland, Monaco, San Marino, Iceland, Norway and Liechtenstein infected with coronavirus is estimated at 2199 people, 38 of them died. 75 % of infections (1689) and 92 % of deaths (35) were registered in Italy.
