OREANDA-NEWS. After opening borders on July 1 and lifting restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus pandemic, the countries of the European Union may maintain a ban on entry for citizens of the United States, Brazil, and Russia. This was reported by The New York Times with reference to the draft document of the Union. The reason for the preservation of the ban is epidemiological situation: in the mentioned countries, large numbers of COVID-19 cases were registered.

According to the publication, European states are currently discussing two possible lists of acceptable visitors based on how countries cope with the pandemic. It is known that both lists include China, Vietnam, and Cuba.

It is noted that Brussels is ready to allow entry to citizens of the countries where the average number of new cases of coronavirus infection in two weeks did not exceed 16 per 100 thousand people. In the USA, this figure is 107, in Brazil 109, in Russia 80.

The EU authorities plan to review lists every two weeks.
