OREANDA-NEWS. Former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, who is in prison, said in response to the accusation of drug addiction that he was ready to take a test for banned drugs in the presence of the media. This is reported by Russian media RIA Novosti with reference to the lawyer of the politician David Sadzaglishvili.

«Mikhail Saakashvili is ready to hand over any material for testing for any drug to the medical staff of the penitentiary institution in the presence of the media», the lawyer said.

Mikheil Saakashvili was detained on October 1 after his entry into the territory of Georgia. He left the country in 2013. In Georgia, four criminal cases have been opened against him — abuse of authority, embezzlement of budget money and beating of a deputy. He faces up to 11 years in prison. At the same time, decisions have already been made in two cases, he was sentenced to nine years in prison. According to Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, the ex-president came to prison «with a smile». However, behind bars, his mental state began to cause serious concern. He also pointed to Saakashvili's drug addiction.
