OREANDA-NEWS. On November 27, the Russian border service did not let the well-known French sociologist Carine Clement to enter the country. The officers of the Federal Security Service (FSB) said that she poses a threat to the security of the Russian Federation.

Clement lived and taught in Russia for more than 20 years, she was married to State Duma deputy Oleg Shein, her daughter is a citizen of the Russia. The sociologist spent the last year in France, where she studied the movement of “yellow vests”, and then came to Russia to give a lecture about it.

As Clement told journalists, she flew to Moscow on Wednesday evening. “At the passport control at the Sheremetyevo airport I was informed about the ban on entry into Russia. …The FSB officers handed me a notice that I’m not allowed to visit Russia for ten years,” she said. According to her, the decision refers to the article of the law on entry ban “in order to ensure the defense capability or security of the state.” “I was informed that the next flight will send me back to France,” Clement added. She had informed the French Embassy about what had happened.

Clement told that she had arrived in Russia to participate in a scientific conference. On November 29, she was going to discuss with the Russian sociologists modern protest movements in the world and give a lecture on the French “yellow vests.” “Last year I have been studying this movement, I spent a lot of time with the regional activists of the “vests” and was surprised to find that they were talking about the same problems as the protesters in the Russian regions. They have similar social criticism, a similar attitude to the authorities,” Clement said. “…I intended to talk about this in a lecture. If the FSB considered this a threat to the country’s security, it is very strange,” the sociologist resumed.
