OREANDA-NEWS. A spill of an unknown substance, presumably of oil or oil products, was discovered in the Baltic Sea off the coast of Poland.

This was reported on April 21 by the Polish Press Agency. A spot 34 kilometers long and 1.3 kilometers wide was detected by satellite by the European Maritime Safety Agency, which notified the Maritime Search and Rescue Service in Gdynia about the threat. The Polish agency sent the rescue vessel Captain Point to the indicated location. It is known that the ship had already reached a place about 36 kilometers from the town of Jastarnia located on the Hel Peninsula. Specialists have taken samples of the substance for examination. The source of pollution has not yet been discovered.
