OREANDA-NEWS. Iraqi security forces destroyed 25 militants near the town of Makhmur located in Ninawa Governorate in the north of the country.

“The Counter-Terrorism Directorate, in coordination with the international coalition’s aviation, landed in the south of Makhmur… destroyed 25 terrorists, nine tunnels and a training base,” the statement of the press service of the agency published on Facebook says.

In December 2017, the Iraqi leadership announced the complete liberation from terrorists of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant after three and a half years of war with a group that seized about a third of the country’s territory. Scattered groups of fighters continue to attempt acts of sabotage and attacks in the liberated areas. Iraqi security officials say that most of the actions of militants are suppressed.
