OREANDA-NEWS Russia is an Arctic country. This opinion was expressed by Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, whose words are quoted by TASS.

The politician speculated about this during a speech at the flagship educational marathon "Knowledge. The first ones."

"Russia is a huge country, which I have been talking about for quite a long time here, talking about the historical challenges that we had, the strategic borders that we have. We are an Arctic country," he said.

Medvedev also recalled that ice is melting in the Arctic, which poses a threat on a global scale.

Earlier, Russian virologist Alexei Agranovsky said that formal logic suggests that dangerous ancient viruses can be stored frozen in the Arctic ice and Siberian permafrost.
