OREANDA-NEWSPresident Vladimir Putin at an expanded meeting of the board of the Ministry of Defense assessed the share of the latest weapons in Russia's nuclear triad. “For 2019, many qualitative and systemic changes have occurred in the development of the Armed Forces. Thus, the share of modern weapons in the nuclear triad has reached 82%”, the president said.

The new strategic-range hypersonic missile system Avangard, which began to enter the missile forces this year, Putin called "the weapon of the future, capable of overcoming both current and future missile defense".

The President noted that robotic systems and unmanned aerial vehicles are actively being introduced into the Russian Armed Forces, "which at times increases the capabilities of units and subunits". According to him, this year the nuclear forces “convincingly” demonstrated their increased capabilities during the October Thunder 2019 exercises.

Russian military equipment should be superior to foreign counterparts, a “chess draw” in this matter is unacceptable, Putin said. “If we want to win, technology must be better than world standards. This is not a game of chess where a draw can suit us sometimes, it is a military organization of the state”, the head of state said.
