Rada of Ukraine Ratified an Agreement with Turkey on Military Cooperation
The agreement was concluded on October 16, 2020 during the official visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Turkey. The document envisages the creation of a legal basis for the expansion and deepening of Ukrainian-Turkish cooperation in the field of defense in 21 directions.
Cooperation between the countries will, in particular, include military training, mutual participation in training and joint exercises, the defense industry, and the exchange of military classified information.
Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba informed that Ukraine had purchased shock drones from Turkey in order to "contain" Russia and, with their help, to defend the territory of its country. Later it became known that the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Turkish Bayraktar entered into an agreement and are going to jointly build a center for the maintenance and modernization of drones. The center is planned to be built not far from Kiev. At the end of October, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine informed that the Ukrainian army used the Bayraktar strike drone in Donbass for the first time.
