OREANDA-NEWS. The virus SARS-CoV-2, which causes the new infection COVID-19, has undergone a partial mutation, it was identified by specialists in the Siberian Federal District of Russia.

This was reported by the head of the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing, Anna Popova. “We see changes in the protein… that are identified in the Siberian region, which allow us to assume that this region is forming its own variant with certain mutations,” Popova said.

By September, there were several thousand coronavirus mutations in the world, but only about two dozen of them were resistant. 93 % of patients in the world have been infected with two mutations of the virus with protein replacement. The first variants of the virus with these mutations were detected at the end of January in China, then in Australia, and at the end of February in most countries of Western Europe, Saudi Arabia, USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Morocco and Senegal. In Russia, they were detected in 99 % of those infected. In mid-November, scientists from the University of North Carolina and the University of Wisconsin–Madison described another virus strain that appeared in Europe and was named D614G.
