In April, the US Department of State's website announced that the agreement for Sweden's admission to the alliance became effective.

The beginning of Sweden's joining of NATO occurred in 2022.

Almost all of NATO's nations swiftly ratified Sweden's inclusion in the alliance, with the exception of Turkey and Hungary. After a series of meetings, however, Istanbul and Budapest rescinded their objections and endorsed Stockholm's access to NATO.According to the process for joining NATO, all member countries have signed protocols to the North Atlantic Treaty regarding Sweden's entry into the alliance and informed the United States, which is the depositary of the Treaty, of this. The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, then invited Sweden to become a member of the North Atlantic Alliance.
