OREANDA-NEWS The largest supplier of wine from Abkhazia, the Sukhumi plant of LLC "Wines and Waters of Abkhazia" has suspended work due to the introduction by the government of the country of a new excise tax on wine materials imported into the republic, said Valery Avidzba, chief winemaker of the enterprise. Interfax writes about this.

As the employee pointed out, the Cabinet of Ministers decided to introduce an excise tax of 30 percent on imported wine materials. "This will have a negative impact on the production of wines, as it significantly increases the cost of our products," the specialist believes.

He pointed out that the manufacturer of Lykhna and Psou had suspended work for a while. Avidzba expressed hope that the Cabinet of Ministers would reverse the decision it had made.

Earlier it became known that in 2023, Russia imported sparkling wine worth $ 348 million, a decrease of 0.9 percent year-on-year.
