OREANDA-NEWS. European officials intend to tighten the rules of entry to the countries of the community for Americans due to the surge of coronavirus infections in the United States. This is reported by The Wall Street Journal, citing sources in the diplomatic sphere.

EU officials have been discussing this step throughout August, since the level of spread of COVID-19 in the United States currently exceeds the European one. In addition, this measure will be a response to the fact that Washington continues to maintain a ban on entry to the United States from Europe unless absolutely necessary. In Brussels, they said that they would not allow a long absence of reciprocity.

Slovenia, which currently holds the EU presidency, proposes, along with the United States, to ban non-mandatory travel from five more countries. The final decision on this issue should be made on August 30. The ban will be of a recommendation nature for members of the community.
