OREANDA-NEWS Drastic changes in the treatment of cancer patients are expected in Russia in the next five to six years, said Health Minister Mikhail Murashko.

"I think that drastic changes are coming in oncology in the next five to six years, new drugs will appear," the head of the department said at a meeting with students of the Ryazan Medical College.

Due to the increase in life expectancy, people will more often encounter malignant neoplasms, but the search for new treatment methods does not stop for a minute, Murashko stressed.

In the case of some cancers, doctors have learned how to treat patients and achieve remission, but challenges remain.
In early February, Murashko reported that the speed and quality of diagnosis had increased in the country — more than 60 percent of tumors are detected at the first and second stages, when the prognosis of treatment is assessed as favorable. He also highlighted the positive dynamics in the treatment of children who are faced with this disease.
