OREANDA-NEWS. There is no need to deploy a UN peacekeeping mission on the border between Russia and Ukraine, such a measure will not help resolve the internal Ukrainian conflict. This was announced on Tuesday, February 8, by Petr Ilyichev, Director of the Department of International Organizations of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"There is no need. The peacekeepers will not solve anything in the intra-Ukrainian conflict. Ukrainians need to talk to the LPR and DPR,” he said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

As the representative of the department emphasized, the relevant issue is closed and is not subject to further discussion.

“The implementation of the Minsk agreements and resolution 2202 is being discussed, nothing is said about peacekeepers,” Gazeta.ru quoted Ilyichev as saying.

A day earlier, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that the country would not enter into a dialogue with certain areas of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions (the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics). At the same time, he accused Russia of trying to destabilize the situation in the southeast of the country and drive a wedge between Kiev and its Western partners.

On February 7, US President Joe Biden once again noted what a "giant mistake" a conditional Russian invasion of Ukraine would be, and also recalled the catastrophic "impact on Europe and the rest of the world." The President of the United States mentioned the "high price" that Russia will pay in case of violation of the territorial integrity of Ukraine.

In turn, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that statements about Russia's aggression "at least do not correspond to sound logic." He also pointed out that the further expansion of NATO to the borders of the Russian Federation poses a threat, and in the event of a military conflict between Russia and the alliance, there will be no winners.

In addition, the Russian leader called on Ukraine to comply with the Minsk agreements. He stressed that there is no alternative to these agreements.
