OREANDA-NEWSIn 2019, Georgia will purchase a total of 160 million cubic meters of gas from Russia. This will be about 5% of the total volume of imported gas. This was announced on Wednesday by the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of the Republic, Natia Turnava, to journalists.

"Azerbaijan remains our main supplier. According to preliminary information, this year our market will consume 2.6 billion cubic meters of gas, 95% of which will be supplied by Azerbaijan through the transit quota or through the Sokar company. About 160 will be imported from Russia this year million cubic meters, which is approximately 5% of the total", said Turnava. The head of the Ministry of Economy believes that the volume of gas consumed by the country will remain unchanged in 2020.

In April, ex-Minister of Economy Georgy Kobulia said that Georgia had agreed with Gazprom to purchase small quantities of gas, but then he did not specify how much gas was in question. Georgia has not purchased gas from Russia since 2006. The country only received 10% of the total transit volume of Russian gas to Armenia. Since 2017, the Russian Federation has paid Georgia this transit with money and partially with raw materials, and in 2018 with only money.
