OREANDA-NEWS. The Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB) liquidated two extremist cells in Karachay-Cherkessia and Dagestan.

“The Federal Security Service in the Malokarachaevsky District of the Karachai-Cherkess Republic and in the cities of Makhachkala, Kaspiysk and Izberbash of the Republic of Dagestan suppressed the activities of two cells of the international extremist religious association Takfir wal-Hijra, banned in Russia, with a total number of more than 20 people,” the FSB Public Relations Center reported.

Cell members actively promoted radical ideology and recruited new supporters into the religious extremist sect. “They called on believers to reject secular laws and institutions of civil society, and also advocated the creation of a theocratic Islamic state – a caliphate – on the territory of the North Caucasus,” the agency informed.

During the searches, three grenades, three pistols, cartridges, a sawed-off gun, cold steel, as well as copies of pseudo-religious literature and other materials of extremist nature were confiscated.
