OREANDA-NEWSThe Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved a law on the growth of the minimum wage by 5.86 percent, up to five thousand hryvnias, which at the exchange rate as of August 25 is equal to 183 dollars. RIA Novosti reports.

The document must be signed by President Volodymyr Zelensky, it will enter into force the next day, that is, the changes will start working on September 1. Currently, the minimum wage in the republic is $ 170. To quickly make it higher, the deputies gathered at an extraordinary meeting.

This level of wages will be significantly higher than in Russia, where the minimum wage in 2020 is 12,130 rubles ($ 162).

Earlier, the Minister of Finance of Ukraine Denis Ulyutin noted that such a measure would cost the budget $ 110 million in three months. In the future, the plans of the country's leadership provide for an increase in the minimum wages to six thousand hryvnia ($ 219.6) from the beginning of 2021, and then from July 1 to 6.5 thousand ($ 237.6).

Russia also intends to raise the minimum wage over time. Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova in June called this task strategically important for the state, but at the moment she has not yet specified the parameters of a possible increase.
