OREANDA-NEWS. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced the launch of a global program to help poor countries in combating the coronavirus spread.

“This is the moment to step up for the vulnerable,” he said during a virtual press briefing. According to the politician, the plan started to be realized after the allocation of 60 million US dollars from the UN Central Emergency Response Fund. This money should go towards food delivery, the work of the missions of the World Health Organization and the transport of medical personnel and equipment. Under the plan, the UN is going to establish air routes to the countries of Africa, Asia and Latin America. They will help accelerate the transfer of the specialists to the regions where COVID-19 outbreaks are recorded.

It is also known that the UN requested 2 billion dollars for further implementation of the plan.
