OREANDA-NEWS. Due to the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, hundreds of thousands of children may die as a result of a recession. This was stated on April by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres.

According to him, reducing incomes may lead families to allocate less money for healthy eating, and this especially affects children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers. At the same time, the UN Secretary-General emphasized that vaccination against measles and poliomyelitis has stopped in some countries, adding that due to the workload of hospitals with coronavirus-infected patients, many children may receive without timely treatment.

Guterres called on families and political leaders at all levels to protect children all over the world.
