OREANDA-NEWS. The Washington Post reports that the United States refused to take part in an international project to develop and distribute a vaccine against coronavirus of a new type, one of the founders of which is the World Health Organization (WHO).

Earlier, 172 countries expressed their desire to participate in the project COVAX (COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access). Its goal is to accelerate development, production and distribution of vaccine in sufficient quantities to help people from high risk groups all over the world. The initiative was launched by the WHO together with the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations, and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance (previously Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization).

The United States severed ties with the WHO at the end of May of 2020. Washington claimed that the organization failed to fulfil its task and took the side of China during the pandemic. Before that, the administration of the US President decided to stop funding WHO and issued an ultimatum to the organization, demanding reforms. The WHO refused to consider this issue.
