OREANDA-NEWS. State Duma deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Nikolai Arefiev, in an interview with NEWS.ru, noted that the issue of restoring the Russian economy against the backdrop of sanctions depends on the measures taken by the government. He does not believe in a decline in GDP by 11% by the end of 2022. Earlier, S&P Global Market Intelligence analysts prepared a study according to which the Russian economy, against the backdrop of sanctions, will recover in ten years to the level of 2021, and this year the country's GDP will decline by 11.1%. According to experts, the indicator will show positive dynamics only in 2024 - by 1.6%.

The Russian economy after covid is almost restored. The only thing that does not console us is that our economy is mainly based on oil and gas resources. If they stop generating income, then we will not receive about 40% of GDP. However, this is not fatal, because everything else will work: agriculture, consumer goods will be produced. At one time, the USSR did without oil and gas resources and was the second country in the world,” said Arefiev.

In his opinion, if the government focuses on the domestic market and its own production, then "everything can be done."

There is money. Our gas and oil will be bought, they will not go anywhere. Maybe not in the volumes that were. If the government focuses on the production of consumer goods, there will be no drop in production volumes. I believe that if the GDP falls by 10%, then this is not a tragedy,” the deputy said.

Arefiev stressed that if the government reorients itself towards import substitution, then in two years Russia will not only not lose, but will even make up for lost time in 30 years.
