OREANDA-NEWS. The source of COVID-19 is still not known, but it is assumed that it was transmitted from bats to humans through an intermediate link. This was stated by Fadela Chaib, a spokeswoman for the World Health Organization (WHO).

“All available evidence suggests the virus has an animal origin and is not manipulated or constructed virus in a lab or somewhere else. It is probable, likely that the virus is of animal origin,” she said. According to Chaib, the WHO is working with various countries to find out the nature of a new coronavirus. She mentioned that several expert groups have been created.

WHO representative also noted that 70 % of all viruses are of animal nature, in particular, Ebola, plague viruses and coronavirus SARS CoV-2.
