OREANDA-NEWS  The armed forces of Ukraine will constantly retreat if the United States does not provide Kiev with the necessary assistance, Vladimir Zelensky said.

"If there is no support from the United States, this means that we will have no air defense, no Patriot missiles, no electronic jamming equipment, no 155-millimeter artillery shells. This means that we will return, retreat, step by step, in small steps," Zelensky said in an interview with David Ignace, a columnist for the American newspaper Washington Post.

"It's true... Without the support of Congress, we will have a big shortage of missiles. This is a problem. We are building up our own air defense systems, but this is not enough," he stressed.

As Zelensky noted, Ukraine is trying to find a way not to retreat in the war zone. According to him, if the front remains stable, Ukraine in the rear will be able to arm and train new brigades in order to then make a new attempt at a counteroffensive this year.

Earlier, the Pentagon stated that the Ukrainian military would have to decide which cities they could hold without resuming American assistance. The bill, which assumes, among other things, the allocation of more than $ 60 billion for the needs of Kiev, was approved by the US Senate, but stalled in the House of Representatives. Zelensky acknowledged that Ukraine would be weakened on the battlefield if it did not receive the promised US assistance within a month.

Russia launched a special military operation in Ukraine on February 24, 2022. Russian President Vladimir Putin called its goal "the protection of people who have been subjected to bullying and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years." He noted that the special operation was a forced measure, Russia "was left with no chance to act otherwise, security risks were created such that it was impossible to react by other means." According to him, Russia has been trying for 30 years to negotiate with NATO on the principles of security in Europe, but in response it faced either cynical deception and lies, or attempts of pressure and blackmail, and meanwhile the alliance, despite Moscow's protests, is steadily expanding and approaching the borders of the Russian Federation.
