OREANDA-NEWS  Russian opera singer Anna Netrebko will appear again on the stage of the Berlin State Opera. On September 15, she will play in the production of "Macbeth" by Giuseppe Verdi. This was reported by the press service of the opera.

"It is important to apply a differentiated approach here and distinguish between the period before and after the outbreak of war. Since then, Anna Netrebko has not accepted any invitations to work in Russia. Her managers have confirmed to us that there are still no plans to perform in Russia," the opera's press service said.

Shortly before that, a petition was launched in Germany against Anna Netrebko's performance at the Berlin Opera. The petition says that the Russian woman "constantly demonstrated her closeness to the Kremlin, received awards from Vladimir Putin, was captured in photos with him, and also posed with the flag of Novorossiya in a photo with one of the pro-Russian separatists Oleg Tsarev." According to the authors of the petition, the singer "only very indifferently said that she is against the current war and hopes that it will end."

On March 3, 2022, cooperation with Anna Netrebko was terminated by the Metropolitan Opera in New York. The theater explained the decision by the fact that the singer did not condemn the military operation in Ukraine. Anna Netrebko spoke out against the fighting only a month later — on March 30. She stated that she does not support any of the Russian political figures. In the same year, the singer sued the Metropolitan Opera and demanded $ 360 thousand in compensation. The New York court decided to pay Anna Netrebko compensation in the amount of $ 200 thousand.
